Justin Coombes
The artist’s latest series of works entitled; Urban Pastoral is based on allotments situated in and around London. Coombes takes a subject matter that is quintessentially English and presents it against the backdrop of the city at night.
Using either a 35mm mechanical slide projector or a digital video projector, he projects photographs onto nocturnal landscapes, capturing the juxtaposition of real and projected space with his long-exposures. The scenes appear to glow with an almost unnaturally vivid light that gives the work a mysterious and haunting quality
