Helga Steppan
For Belongings Apart, 2007, Steppan invited family and friends to lend her an object they own that is transparent to be part of a large installation. Once she had received the items, she set about photographing the locations in which the objects previously belonged. The result is a series of images of people’s home environments in which an object has been removed, some more overtly than others. Each photograph is accompanied by a piece of text written by each of the object’s owners.
