In the series Babylon Duggan deals with similar concerns but in a less overt way. Here he displays the objects we surround ourselves with against a black backdrop giving each object the same level of scrutiny, be it an owl or a child’s doll’s house. The work questions our relationship to the material objects we surround ourselves with.
Artist Background
Irish artist Joe Duggan has exhibited his work in the UK and internationally, recently having shows in Rome and Antwerp. He lives and works in London and is nominated for this year’s prestigious Allied Irish Bank Artist Award.
Duggan produces images that appear at first sight to be snapshots of ordinary life but are then revealed as carefully staged dioramas and sets.
